1988 -89  was a great year for  pop music, and not just because rip jeans became fashionable and Stock Atkin and Waterman ruled the officials charts, no 1988 brought us BROS, Yazz, Brother Beyond to name but a few. but we look back  on 7 of those debut artist and albums that ruled the charts and chart their success on worldwide albums sales for a debut act



Number 1 Bros

Push - Over 12 Million Sold Worldwide  - 1988

Push is the debut album by British pop band Bros  and was released on 28 March 1988. The album spawned five hit singles, including the reissue of "I Owe You Nothing" which reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in June 1988.  The album reached No. 2 in the UK Albums Chart , Number 1 in over 19 countries and spent 54 weeks in the Top 75.[3] The album went 4× Platinum in the United Kingdom and sold over 12 Million worldwide







Number 2  - Jason Donavan

Ten Good Reasons- Over 3 Million Sold Worldwide - 1989


Ten Good Reasons is the
debut album by Australian pop star and actor Jason Donovan. Released in 1989, it became the biggest selling album in the UK that year, and yielded two solo #1 singles ("Too Many Broken Hearts" and "Sealed with a Kiss") and also features a duet with Kylie Minogue, "Especially for You", which had reached #1 in January 1989.




Number 3 -Taylor Dayne

Tell it to my Heart   - Over 2 Million Sold Worldwide- 1988

Tell It to My Heart is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Dayne, released in 1988. It yielded four US top ten singles: "Tell It to My Heart" (#7), "Prove Your Love" (#7), "I'll Always Love You" (#3) and "Don't Rush Me" (#2), while the first two singles, "Tell It to My Heart" and "Prove Your Love", reached the UK top ten at #3 and #8 respectively. The album achieved double-platinum status in the US.



Number 4 -Yazz  and the Plastic Population 
Wanted   - Over 900.000 Sold Worldwide - 1988

 is the debut album by British pop singer Yazz, released in 1988. The album contains the single "The Only Way Is Up", which reached number one in six countries Wanted was certified double platinum in the UK in September 1989, for sales exceeding 600,000 copies.


 

Number 5 -Johnny Hates Jazz


Turn back the Clock   - Over 800.000 Sold Worldwide- 1988

 Turn Back the Clock is the debut studio album by British band Johnny Hates Jazz, released at the beginning of 1988. The album, whose most famous single was "Shattered Dreams," peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, and No. 56 on the US Billboard 200Kim Wilde sings backing vocals on the song "Turn Back the Clock," which reached No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 10 in New Zealand.

Number 6  -London Boys

Requiem  - Over 300.000 Sold Worldwide- 1989

The Twelve Commandments of Dance is the debut album by German-based English dance-pop duo London Boys, released in 1989. It reached number 2 in the UK Albums Chart and stayed on the chart for 29 weeks.[1]
Other than the charting singles stated in the track listing, two other singles were released: "I'm Gonna Give My Heart" and "Dance Dance Dance".
 



Number 7 -Brother Beyond

Get Even   - Over 300.000 Sold Worldwide- 1988

 is the debut album of British boy band Brother Beyond released on EMI/Parlophone label, in two different editions, both in 1988, generally referred to as Get Even I and Get Even II. The second edition of the album saw two tracks written by the band replaced with ones produced by Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW).

Editor Katie Watkin's 6/5/2022  Pop idol winner and singer Will Young has finally spoken out about his twin brother Rupert's suicide ahead of a new documentary to aired on channel 4.  Rupert Young, was 41,when he tragically died after falling from Westminster Bridge in London on 2nd of August 2020.
